BOSTON - The No. 3/4 Boston University men's ice hockey team will wrap up its preseason on Thursday (Oct. 6) when the U.S. National Under-18 Team visits Agganis Arena for an exhibition contest. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
This is the first of 15 home games this season that will be streamed live for free on TerrierTV through Campus Insiders. Fans from all over the world can watch all the action at GoTerriers.com/TerrierTV.
Four of this year's Terrier freshmen played for the U18 squad last season, which brings the total of U.S. National Team Development Program alumni to have played at BU to 32.
Pat Aufiero was the first of that group back in 1998 and there were nine players on NHL training camp rosters this year who played at both the NTDP and BU (Adam Clendening, Jack Eichel, Matt Grzelcyk, Matt Lane, Matt Nieto, Kevin Shattenkirk, Brian Strait, David Warsofsky, Colin Wilson).
The Terriers are 5-1-1 all-time against the U.S. Under-18 Team with the lone loss coming last season. All four of BU's current freshmen from the NTDP played key roles in Team USA's 7-4 victory. Kieffer Bellows scored two goals an added an assist, Clayton Keller had a trio of assists and Chad Krys added a helper while Jake Oettinger made 41 saves in goal.
BU will head to New York following Thursday's game to officially open its 2016-17 season at Colgate on Saturday (Oct. 8). It will be the Terriers' first visit to Hamilton since 1993.
Freshmen accounted for nine of the 10 goals in Saturday's 10-2 victory over Prince Edward Island in the exhibition opener. Patrick Harper was the standout with five goals and two assists while Keller added a hat trick. Freshman Dante Fabbro and junior Brandon Hickey also found the back of the net.
The Terriers went 6-of-11 on the power play and Harper's fifth and final goal was a shorthanded tally to close out the scoring with 12:06 remaining in the third, giving BU seven special-team goals. Both of the Panthers' goals came on 5-on-3 power plays and BU kept the visitors scoreless for the final 42:23.
Harper was named the Warrior Hockey East Player of the Week while Keller took home Pro Ambitions Rookie of the Week honors.
