This summer, GoTerriers.com will once again count down the top 12 achievements of Boston University teams and student-athletes from the previous year. Check back each Tuesday and Friday as we reveal this year's Terrier Twelve.
Coming in at No. 10 in this year's Terrier Twelve is the Boston University Athletics Department's exceptional performances in both academics and community service.
A school-record nine athletic programs earned perfect scores of 1000 in the latest multi-year NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate (APR). All nine teams earned Public Recognition Awards for finishing in the top-10 percent of their respective sports. The Terriers have had at least eight teams earn this distinction for the last five years.
BU's men's cross country, men's indoor and outdoor track and field, women's indoor and outdoor track and field, women's golf, women's rowing, women's soccer and women's tennis teams each achieved a perfect APR. Women's golf is one of just 129 teams across all sports in the country to earn a Public Recognition Award in all 10 years since the APR was introduced.
The men's cross country team, which has tallied a perfect APR for the last six years, accumulated the highest team GPA during the 2014-15 academic year, posting a mark of 3.41 through both the fall and spring semesters. Not to be outdone, the women's cross country team paced all women's teams, earning an overall GPA of 3.36 last year.
As a whole, the athletic department set a new record with a 3.08 GPA across all 24 sports.
Boston University also had four Patriot League Scholar-Athletes of the year which included men's soccer's Nick Thomson, who was also named a Capital One Academic All-American. Emily Tillo (women's golf), Johanna Hyoty (women's tennis) and Shelby Stableford (women's indoor track) were also named PL Scholar-Athletes of the Year.
In addition to these incredible academic accomplishments, the Terriers put in more community service hours last season than ever before.
During 2014-15, Boston University student-athletes volunteered 3,812 hours in community service, an increase of 148 hours from the previous year.
The Terriers' community service efforts included registering participants for a breast cancer walk, presenting books and reading to inner-city school children, hosting a day of sports for autistic children and hosting a Special Olympics swim meet.
The BU women's soccer team paced all Terriers, performing 763 community service hours in 2014-15 while women's rowing also had an exceptional year helping the community, logging over 450 volunteer hours as a team.
