Types of Gifts
Annual Gifts
Annual fund gifts are essential to the continued success of Terrier Athletics. Each gift helps to provide additional opportunities for student-athletes by providing for current use funding for immediate budgetary needs. Athletic annual fund gifts can be made directly to a team or program (i.e. the Friends of BU Hockey, Friends of Women's Lacrosse, Friends of Academic Support, etc) or the Terrier Pride Annual Fund, which provides for BU Athletics' areas of greatest need. Annual fund donations often provide for needs including, but are not limited to team travel, state-of-the-art equipment, team apparel, alumni/game day functions, etc.
Endowed gifts provide financial stability and help to ensure the sustained success of Boston University Athletics. Endowment gifts are invested with the University's endowment and provide a permanent source of income for BU Athletics. A portion of the interest generated by these gifts is used to support BU Athletics and BU student-athletes while the principal is continually re-invested in the endowment to preserve buying power and future growth. Endowments support causes as specified by the donor(s) typically including student-athlete scholarships, operational support, and/or named coaching positions.
Gifts to capital projects support facility enhancement and help open doors to important new initiatives that are essential in providing additional opportunities for student-athletes to learn, grow and compete and to strive towards even greater success. Previous capital gifts have included renovations and construction of team locker rooms, academic support center, workout facilities, etc.
