How do I benefit from earning Terrier Pride Loyalty Points?
Points are used to prioritize requests for BU ice hockey and basketball season tickets, away game tickets, Beanpot tickets, and postseason tickets. The more points you earn the better access you will have to tickets.

Do my gifts to the Friends of Hockey and/or Friends of Basketball count toward my points?
Yes, all gifts to the Friends of Hockey and Friends of Basketball are included in the "Lifetime Giving to BU Athletics" category. You will also be credited with a year of giving for each gift made in a given fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

How are points calculated?
Donors and season ticket holders are assigned points based on financial support, season tickets, and affinity. The points in each category are then totaled to calculate a ranking. In cases of point ties, the tiebreaker will be determined based on total dollars and your total years as a season ticket holder.

Why update the Terrier Pride Loyalty Point System?
Every year Boston University works with donors and season ticket holders to evaluate the Terrier Pride Loyalty Point System. The most recent updates (effective July 1, 2010) were developed in close consultation with donors and season ticket holders.

What gifts are included in the "Lifetime Giving to BU Athletics" category?
All categories under "Financial Support" include any gift to BU Athletics - including, but not limited to, support for the Friends of BU Hockey, premium tickets (the tax-deductible portion), Agganis Arena, Student Village, athletic scholarships, and all varsity and club team specific funds.

What is included in the "2010 Update Point Carryover" category?
You may notice a line item under "Financial Support" entitled "2010 Update Point Carryover" on your printed report. This category was created to credit you with matching gifts, premium seat income and other contributions that were counted as "total giving" prior to the 2010 update, but will not be counted moving forward. This will only be included on your report if applicable.
This credit will be permanently included in your point total to ensure that you receive full credit for your past support and are not penalized by the updated criteria.

How are "Consecutive Years of Giving to BU Athletics" calculated?
Points for Consecutive Years of Giving are calculated based on the University's fiscal year (July 1 - June 30). In order to accrue points in this category, you must make a gift to BU Athletics each year prior to June 30. If a gift is not received by June 30 points in this category will reset to 0.

If my company matches my gift to Boston University Athletics, will my company's gift be included in my loyalty point calculation?
Unfortunately, we cannot count matching gifts toward your point total. Terrier Pride Loyalty Points provide you with a "benefit that involves reciprocity between the institution and the donor" and, therefore, are not allowed according to matching gift guidelines.
Matching gifts will, however, still count toward your donor recognition levels --such as your Friends of BU Hockey membership club-- so long as you do not deduct benefits from your gift.

What portion of my premium seat or suite payment counts toward my points?
The entire tax-deductable gift portion of your payment is credited toward your points in the "Lifetime Giving to BU Athletics" category. You will also be credited with a year of giving for each gift made in a given fiscal year (July 1 - June 30).

What is a planned or estate gift?
A planned gift is one that is structured as a component of your estate and/or financial plan. A planned gift often times allows donors to maximize impact of their support without sacrifice to themselves or their families. Examples of planned gifts include bequests, gifts that can provide a lifetime income stream to the donor or others, and retirement asset beneficiary designations.

How can I earn points for my planned or estate gift?
Once you provide documentation to the University that you have designated BU as a beneficiary of a planned or estate gift, you will be enrolled in the Claflin Society and the 20 points will be added to your total at the next update.

How will I know where I stand on the priority point list?
Season ticket holders can expect to receive their printed point summary in July and January each year.

When will the points be updated?
Terrier Pride Loyalty Points are calculated five times per year:
9/30 Away Game Ticket Requests
10/31 Beanpot Ticket Requests
12/31 End of Calendar Year Update
3/1 Postseason Ticket Requests
6/30 Season Ticket Renewals/Upgrades

How can I increase my point total prior to the deadlines?
All gifts and ticket purchases prior to these deadlines will be reflected in your point total. To make a gift online, click here or call 617-353-3008.

Can I transfer my points to another person?
Yes, you can transfer points accrued under the "Season Tickets" category to a family member to recognize your family's commitment to BU Athletics. These point transfers enable you to pass your points and seats down through generations. Please note that giving and affinity points will not be transferred.
Loyalty points cannot be transferred to non-related individuals. All transfers are irreversible. Written consent may be requested prior to transfer.

How can I join my account with my spouse?
Spouses are able to join their accounts into a "household" account by calling Terrier Pride at 617-353-3008. Written consent from both individuals may be requested prior to joining accounts.
