Ryan McTavish joined Boston University as an assistant strength & conditioning coach in February 2022.

His primary responsibilities at BU include working directly with men’s basketball, women’s soccer, and both tennis teams, designing and facilitating programs to enhance athletic performance.

Prior to BU, McTavish spent two seasons (2020-22) at the University of North Alabama as director of sport performance for men’s basketball and volleyball. Prior to North Alabama, he spent two years (2018-20) in Richmond, Virginia, with the VCU men’s basketball team as a graduate assistant and professional intern for sport performance.

Originally from Maryland, McTavish has also spent time working with local athletes and teams in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. metro area. His first role as a strength coach began at Sarge Athletics (2017-18), a private facility located in Ijamsville, Maryland.

McTavish is Strength & Conditioning Coach certified (SCCC) by the Collegiate Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association and is also a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) by the National Strength & Conditioning Association. He is also currently CPR, First Aid, and AED certified.

A 2017 graduate from Shepherd University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in recreation and sport studies, McTavish also received his master’s degree in 2020 from VCU in sports leadership. McTavish was a member of the basketball team while at Shepherd, and also played two seasons at Presbyterian College in South Carolina.
