Women's Cross Country Finishes Second at AE Championships; Men Place Third

Kings Park, N.Y. - The Boston University women's cross country team finished second at the America East Championships on Saturday at Sunken Meadows, while the men's team placed third. Senior Andrea Walkonen finished first overall (17:27.2) and graduate student Anne Wighton placed fifth (18:01.8) in the women's race, while senior Nick Goodman (26:20.5) finished sixth in the men's race.

The women's team finished second out of the nine competing teams with 66 points. Stony Brook (38) finished first, with New Hampshire (73), Maine (131), Binghamton (141), Albany (176), UMBC (182), Vermont (184) and Hartfort (229) finishing behind the Terriers.

Walkonen has finished first in each of the team's four races this season. Senior Jessica Cickay (12, 18:18.5), freshman Emma Reed (18, 18:52.7), sophomore Sarah Mosser (30, 19:33.1) and junior Katie Weider (47, 20:30.2) also finished for the Terriers.

The men's team finished third out of nine teams, earning 85 points. Boston University finished behind New Hampshire (35) and Stony Brook (37), but placed ahead of Maine (144), UMBC (125), Binghamton (140), Albany (180), Vermont (200) and Hartford (271).

After Goodman, sophomore Eric Ashe (13, 26:39.2), senior David Proctor (18, 26:48.2), senior Patrick Hoye (21, 26:58.1), senior Jacob Laroe (27:20.6), junior Thomas McLean (28:20.8) and freshman Kenneth Haltom (48, 28:48.0) rounded out Boston University's runners.

 

 

The Terriers' next action is the NCAA Regionals on Nov. 10 at Franklin Park.
