Boston University director of track & field and cross country Robyne Johnson will serve as an assistant coach for the United States at the DecaNation meet on Aug. 15 in Albi, France.
The DecaNation is an annual track and field meet organized by the French Athletics Federation since 2005. The competition comprises national teams of athletes competing in one of ten events with a team score kept to determine a winner. Team USA, winner of six of the previous eight DecaNation meets, will square off against teams from France, Russia, England, China, Germany, Spain and South Africa. Fifteen members of the recent Olympic squad will be part of the U.S. contingent.
This is the second straight summer that Johnson has been tabbed to serve as a coach for the United States. Last year, she was the head women’s track & field coach for Team USA at the World University Games in China. A member of the USA Track & Field Coaches Association, she was also an assistant for the U.S. squad that captured its first title at the 1998 World Cup in Johannesburg, South Africa, and was also an assistant coach for the 2003 Pan American Games.
Johnson, who is entering her eighth season at BU, helped the women’s team win the program’s 12th America East indoor title in 2012 and also guided the men to a second-place finish at the same meet. The teams finished second and third, respectively, at the outdoor meet. Johnson also coached a pair of All-Americans, as sophomore Rich Peters was a two-time First Team All-American and junior Allison Barwise was a First Team All-American during the indoor season and a Second Team All-America selection during the outdoor campaign.

Since Johnson's arrival, the Terriers have claimed six America East women's track & field titles along with three cross country championships, including the title claimed by the men in 2010. In total, they have captured over 80 individual titles. During her tenure, Johnson has received numerous awards, as she and her staff have been named America East Coaching Staff of the Year at six conference championships. In 2008, she also earned the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's Northeast Region Head Coach of the Year award.
