INDIANAPOLIS - The Boston University women's track and field team will have two representatives at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, as senior Allison Barwise and graduate student Katie Matthews will both compete at the championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
Barwise qualified in the high jump thanks to a season-best mark of 1.84 meters, which she achieved at the New England Championships on Feb. 23. This will be her second appearance at the indoor championships; Barwise was an All-America selection last season after she finished fifth in the high jump.
Matthews will compete in both the 3,000 and 5,000 meter runs thanks to a pair of record-breaking performances this season. She shattered her own school record in the 5,000m run with a time of 15:46.13 at the Terrier Invitational on Jan. 25. The Rocky Hill, Conn., native then turned in a time of 9:05.73 to set a new school record in the 3,000m run at the Husky Classic. Matthews finished sixth in the 3,000m run at the 2011 championships to earn All-America honors.
The high jump and the 5,000m run will be contested on Friday, with the 3,000m run to take place on Saturday. The meet is being held at the University of Arkansas.
