PRINCETON, N.J. – Junior Allison Barwise of the Boston University women’s track & field team qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the high jump on Sunday at the ECAC Championships held at Princeton University.
Barwise (Orange, Conn.) obtained the "A" standard for the U.S. Olympic Trials and set the second-best mark in the nation with a leap of 1.87m, which was also good for first place at this weekend’s meet. Her mark was well clear of the second-place competitor (1.75m) and was just short of the school record. Barwise also helped guide BU to a 14th-place finish as a team (23 points).
Senior Shelby Walton sprinted to a fourth-place finish in the 200m dash (24.11) and also made it to the semifinals of the 100m dash. Sophomore Monica Adler finished second in the 1500m run with a time of 4:19.83 to also earn points for the Terriers. Junior Julia Mirochnick ran a preliminary heat in the 400m hurdles (1:01.45) and sophomore Sarah Dillard had a toss of 40.75m in the discus.
BU also had athletes compete at the New England Championships this past weekend in Cambridge, Mass. Junior Nikki Long placed 11th in the 800m run (2:14.84), while senior Anna Lukes also competed in that event (2:21.21). Freshman Victoria Perez ran in the 400m hurdles (1:05.98) and sophomore Chelsea Curry hit a mark of 45.05m in the hammer throw.
