BANGOR, Maine - Junior Allison Barwise was named Most Outstanding Field Performer for the second straight year as she helped guide the Boston University women's track & field team to a second-place finish at the America East Championships.
The Terriers collected 130 points during the two-day event, trailing only Albany (185). Binghamton was third (124.50), followed by UMBC (105), Vermont (90), New Hampshire (88.50), Maine (56), Stony Brook (48) and Hartford (30).
Barwise (Orange, Conn.) shattered her own America East record in the heptathlon, as she claimed first place with 5,276 points. She had previously set the record last year with 4,956 points. During the heptathlon, she won the 100m hurdles, high jump, long jump and javelin. She also took first place in the individual high jump with a mark of 1.70m.
Senior Shelby Walton defended her 100m dash title with a time of 11.83 seconds. She also finished second in the 200m dash with a time of 24.15 seconds. Sophomore Rosa Moriello was second in the 5000m run with a time of 16:09.73. She was one of three runners to break the previous meet record set by former Terrier standout Andrea Walkonen in 2006 (16:19.25).
Senior Mariko Takahashi was fourth in the 800m run (2:10.90), while sophomore Monica Adler had a third-place showing in the 1500m run (4:22.60). Senior Kathleen Davies finished seventh in the 1500m run (4:37.86) to also earn points for BU. Junior Julia Mirochnick placed third in the 400m hurdles (1:01.39) and fifth in the 100m hurdles (14.38).
The Terriers received two second-place finishes from its relay teams, as the 4x100m relay team of Walton, Mirochnick,
Carolyn Maynard and
Gemma Acheampong finished with a time of 47.53 seconds, while the 4x800m team of Adler, Davies, Takahashi and
Nikki Long posted a time of 9:07.04.
In the shot put, sophomore Chelsea Curry placed second with a mark of 13.21m. Her classmate, Sarah Dillard, was fourth in that event (12.83m).
BU will be back in action next weekend as the Terriers will send athletes to the ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J., and the New England Championships in Cambridge, Mass.
