July 14, 2008

BOSTON - Senior Laura Stiekema (Amsterdam, The Netherlands), juniors Danielle Abraham (Waukesha, Wis.) and Cori Lefkowith (Clayton, Mo.) and sophomore Francine Whu (Staten Island, N.Y.) all earned spots on the America East Winter-Spring Academic Honor Roll, as announced by the conference last week.

All four were also awarded spots on the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. To be named to the Academic Honor Roll, a student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher during the winter and spring seasons. To qualify for the Commissioner's Honor Roll, the student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher during those same seasons.

Whu was the 2008 America East Player of the Year and Most Outstanding Performer. She played the whole season at No. 1 singles, a year after playing fourth singles. Abraham played at the No. 4, 5, 6 singles spots and finished with a 17-13 record. Lefkowith played third and fourth singles, going 9-0 at No. 4 and finishing the year with a team-best 17-11 record. All three made the All-America East First Team, and each was named to the America East All-Academic team. Stiekema missed the season with an injury.
