LOS ANGELOS— The Boston University women’s tennis team (13-5) travels to the West Coast for the first round of the 2007 NCAA Team Tournament to face No. 8 USC (17-4) on Saturday, May 12 at noon in Marks Stadium. The Terriers are making their ninth consecutive trip to the NCAAs after winning their 14^th-straight America East Tournament title.

BU continued its dominance of the America East Tournament by blanking both Stony Brook and UMBC, 4-0, en route to the championship. The Terriers are undefeated in regular season and conference tournament play over the last 19 years and have only dropped eight team points in that same time span.

USC is making its 16^th straight trip to the NCAAs after receiving an at-large bid and finishing second to Stanford in the Pac-10. The Trojans are 49-22 all-time at the NCAAs and have won seven national team titles.

This will be the first meeting between BU and USC.

Boston University was fueled by its underclassmen this season. Sophomores Cori Lefkowith (21) and Yana Sadovskaya (19) and freshman Rebecca Row (20) all tallied at least 19 singles wins this season. Lefkowith’s 21 were a team high and tied her career high from her rookie campaign. She lost just one spring singles match - against then-No. 29 Florida International - and finished with a 15-1 record. Just twice all spring did she require three sets, and Lefkowith won both matches. Row started the year on a tear, winning 17 of her first 19 matches. Sadovskaya had an excellent fall, finishing with an 8-3 record. She strung together a seven-match win streak at the end of the fall through to Feb. 11.

Should BU advance to the second round, the Terriers will face either Texas or Cal-Irvine at 1 p.m. on May 13. The winner of the regional will travel to the NCAA Division I Women’s Tennis Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., hosted by the University of Georgia. The team championship will be held May 18-22.
