CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After earning two singles wins and teaming with sophomore Vivien Laszloffy for two doubles victories, junior Stefanie Nunic has earned America East Player of the Week honors, the league announced Tuesday. The tandem also received exciting news with their first-ever ITA national ranking at No. 68.
Starting the spring ranked 10th in the region, Nunic and Laszloffy quickly showed that they will be a tough doubles team to face this season, as they opened with six-straight victories, including wins against the region's top teams from No. 28 Yale and No. 69 Dartmouth.
After falling to Syracuse, they bounced back with victories over the top doubles teams from William & Mary and Akron. The win against the Zips proved even more impressive, as the team was ranked 18th in the nation.
Over the weekend, Nunic continued her stellar play in singles as well, dropping a combined seven games for two victories at the top spot to help the No. 70 Terriers improve to 6-3.
The award marks BU's third of the season and Nunic's second with Laszloffy holding the other.
They will next play on Saturday at No. 53 Brown with action set to begin at 12 p.m.
