No. 68 BC Wins Three Tiebreakers to Defeat Women's Tennis, 5-2

DEDHAM, Mass. - Facing its second ranked opponent of the weekend, the Boston University women's tennis dropped three crucial tiebreakers in a hard-fought 5-2 loss to No. 68 Boston College Sunday evening at the Dedham Health & Athletic Complex.

The Eagles (5-0) avenged last year's 4-3 defeat by winning the doubles point and two of their four singles points through tiebreakers. With the loss, the Terriers drop to 3-3.

Senior Leonie-Charlotte Athanasiadis led BU by winning her No. 2 doubles match, 6-3, with sophomore Johanna Hyoty and rallying from a set down to defeat Katya Vasilyev in No. 3 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8.

Ranked No. 17 in the ITA Northeast Region, sophomore Lauren Davis also had a quality win in singles with a 4-6, 6-4, 10-6 win over No. 11 Lexi Borr at No. 2.

BC's first big break came in the No. 3 doubles match when they won they edged sophomores Madison Craft and Kim McCallum, 7-6(6).

The region's No. 14 Jessica Wacnik defeated Hyoty in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5, to give BC the early 2-0 lead.

The Eagles' Jennifer Ren (#4) and Heini Salonen (#5) both came out ahead in super set tiebreakers to defeat freshman Barbara Rodriguez and junior Sami Lieb, respectively.

With the team result already decided, McCallum's No. 6 singles match was shortened to one set, which BC won, 8-3.



The Terriers will next visit Brown on Saturday (Feb. 15).
