CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -

A total of 141 Boston University student-athletes from 10 teams that compete during the winter and spring were named to the America East Conference's Winter/Spring Academic Honor Roll, the conference office announced Thursday.

Sixty of the Terriers were also named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll. To earn Academic Honor Roll status, a student had to earn a grade-point average of 3.0 or above for the 2011 spring semester. To earn placement on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, the student-athlete's GPA for that semester needed to be at least 3.5.

The BU men's track & field team led the way with 29 members earning Academic Honor Roll placement. Women's track & field had 28 student-athletes on the honor roll, along with 19 from women's swimming & diving, 16 from men's swimming & diving, 15 from lacrosse, 11 from softball, nine from women's basketball, six from men's tennis, five from women's tennis and three men's basketball.

Women's track & field also placed 15 members on the Commissioner's Honor Roll, along with 13 from women's swimming & diving, 11 from men's track & field, five from lacrosse, softball and men's swimming & diving, three from men's tennis, and two from women's basketball and women's tennis.

America East is proud to have one of the most comprehensive academic awards programs in the country. In addition to the honor roll, an All-Academic team comprised of student-athletes that excel both academically and athletically is chosen in each of the conference's 20 sports by a committee consisting of faculty athletic representatives, academic advisors and sports information directors. Additionally, a scholar-athlete, someone who distinguishes his/herself as the top student-athlete in his/her sport, is awarded. From that group, one male and one female is selected the America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Finally, the Academic Cup is awarded to the school with the highest cumulative GPA among its student-athletes for that academic year.
