Breznikar Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District I Accolades

BOSTON – Senior Lidija Breznikar of the Boston University women’s swimming and diving team has been named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America District I First Team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). With her inclusion on the first team, Breznikar is now eligible for national Academic All-America honors.

Breznikar recently graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. The Kotlje, Slovenia, native graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences with a 3.8 grade point average and plans to begin medical school at The Chicago Medical School of
Rosalind Franklin University in the fall.

Athletically, Breznikar has left her mark on the swimming and diving program, helping to rewrite the record books. She currently owns school records in the 400 individual medley, 200 breaststroke and 200 IM, while also swimming a leg of the record-breaking 400 and 800-medley relay teams. She captained the 2007 swim team to a second-place finish at the conference championship, claiming the 400 IM crown along the way. In addition to her win in the 400 IM, she also swam to a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke and a third-place finish in the 200 IM. She is also a member of the Slovenian National Team.

In order to be eligible for CoSIDA Academic All-America status, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve, maintain a grade point average of 3.20, and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing.
