Day Two Finals
BOSTON – The 200-free relay team of Brigette O’Shaughnessy, Emily Munday, Marina Morie and Eve Kinsella swam to a first-place finish at the 2007 America East Swimming and Diving Championships, breaking a 23-year-old record in the process. At the end of day two, the women’s squad moved up one spot in the standings to second with 232 points, and men are currently in fourth place with 153.
The 200-free relay time was also seven one-hundredths shy of breaking the AE Championship record, as the team clocked in at 1:35.98. The last time a BU relay squad won a conference crown was during the 2000 season.
In the first finals of day two, Liisa Young swam a season-best in the 500 free with a time of five minutes, 05.22 seconds for a fifth-place finish. Marina Morie and Christina Ruggiero also picked up crucial points in the event, helping the Terriers move up two spots in the rankings and tying leader, UMBC, with 102 points, through seven events.
The trio of Eve Kinsella, Lidija Breznikar and Brigette O’Shaughnessy took second, third and fourth in the 200 IM, as BU and UMBC continued to separate themselves from the pack in the standings. UMBC’s Agnes Stanislawska claimed the 200 IM crown in 2:03.56. Kinsella touched shortly in 2:04.19, .35 seconds faster than her preliminary time, lowering the school record for the second time in one day.
In the women's three-meter diving event, sophomore Alex Crerar placed second with 273.55 points, while senior Megan White was the sixth-place finisher with 225.50 points.
Swimming in the men’s 500-free final, Arik Seiler placed fourth with a time of 4:32.81. In the first heat, Ben Kaiser, Greg Dierksen and Michael Bear helped boost the men’s point total to 112 through seven events to leap to third place.
The men’s 200-free relay team of Griffin Moodie, Arik Seiler, Nick Rosenfeld and Kyle Berg swam to a fourth-place finish, clocking in at 1:26.70.
Day three of the America East Swimming and Diving Championships will begin at 10 a.m., at BU’s Competition Pool.
