Men's Swimming & Diving Defeats Binghamton, 168-132
VESTAL, N.Y. - The Boston University women’s swimming and diving team defeated America East rival Binghamton, 183-116, Saturday afternoon at the Patricia A. Saunders Aquatic Center. BU was victorious in 11 of the 16 events.
Binghamton jumped out to an early lead in the meet after winning the first event, the 200 medley relay, but the Terriers responded with first place finishes in the next three events. BU claimed the top three spots in the 1,000 freestyle, led by senior Megan Happ (10:29.56). Classmate Katie Radin was behind her for second (10:37.85) while freshmen Anna Veselovsky took third (10:55.11).
The Terriers again claimed the top three spots in the 200 freestyle led by freshman Stephanie Nasson (1:55.89). Junior Meghan Grimes touched the wall second (1:58.40) and sophomore Alexsa Savage was right behind her (1:58.42).
Junior Kendra Cheng led the way in the 100 backstroke (58.58) while freshman Mika Spencer claimed the victory in the 200 butterfly (2:07.44). Classmate Celia Simpson (2:08.06) and sophomore Avery Visser (2:11.07), finished second and third, respectively.
Cheng claimed her second victory of the meet in the 100 freestyle (52.69) while Savage earned the win in the 200 backstroke (2:07.22). Sophomore Katherine Kenney collected a win in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.36.
The freshmen trio of Spencer (5:02.75), Nasson (5:05.08) and Olivia Hughes (5:16.41) took the top three spots in the 500 freestyle. Classmate Spencer took her second win of the day in the 200 IM (2:08.54).
Senior Melinda Matyas claimed a pair of victories in the diving events, taking first on the 3m board with a score of 258.86. Matyas later scored 233.10 on the 1m board for her second win of the afternoon.
The Terriers return to action next Saturday (Nov. 3), when they travel to the Bronx, N.Y., for a dual meet at Fordham. Competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
