CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Senior April Setterlund of the Boston University softball team has been named a finalist for the 2011 America East Woman of the Year award, the conference office announced Wednesday afternoon.

A Torrance, Calif., native, Setterlund finished her career as one of the most accomplished players in program history. In 2011, she earned her second straight America East Player of the Year award and became the 11th player in league history to earn AE All-Conference First Team honors all four years of her career. She ranks sixth nationally in on-base percentage (.574) and is 19th in hitting (.434). A first-team All-America selection in 2010, Setterlund concluded her career as the Terriers' all-time leader in batting average, hits, doubles, RBI, runs and slugging percentage

Setterlund earned a 3.30 GPA in business administration with a concentration in management information systems. A three-time member of the University's School of Management Dean's List, she was a finalist for the prestigious Lowe's Senior CLASS Award, which honors senior student-athletes who excel in community, classroom, character and competition. Setterlund was also named to the America East Commissioner's Honor Roll twice and was tabbed a BU Scholar-Athlete in 2011.

A team captain, Setterlund led the way in the community as well. She devoted time to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, Special Olympics of Massachusetts and Triad Trust, a non-profit organization that works to reduce the transmission of HIV & AIDS in the most affected regions in the world. Setterlund also served as treasurer of BU's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, participated in the athletic department's Teddy Bear Toss, was involved with College For Every Student and helped collect money for a fellow student-athlete fighting cancer.

The 2011 America East Woman of the Year will be announced on Tuesday, June 7 at the conference's annual awards dinner in Portsmouth, N.H., site of the conference's Annual Meeting, as well as via a news release on www.AmericaEast.com.

The selection committee will select the top 10 winners in each NCAA division (I, II and III). From among those 30 honorees, the selection committee will determine the top three in each division. Finally, the members of the CWA will vote from among the top nine to determine the 2011 NCAA Woman of the Year.
