Bill McDonald enters his 11th season as an assistant coach at Boston University, working with the Terriers' infielders and catchers under seventh-year head coach Shawn Rychcik. It is his second stint as a softball assistant.

He served as an assistant with the team from 1991-94. During that time, he received a Masters Degree in Education from BU's School of Education. In addition to his on-the-field duties, McDonald has taught science at the Kennedy-Longfellow School in Cambridge, Mass., over the past 14 years, where he was nominated for The Presidential Teaching Award and named to Who's Who Among American Teachers, which honors educators nominated by their students. Recently, the eighth-grade class finished second in the state by placing the highest percentage of students in the advanced category on the 2007 MCAS Exam.

A native of Somerville, Mass., and recently married, McDonald has played men's major fastpitch for the past 10 years. He has been named to the ASA's All-America Team and the ISC All-World Team. In 1999, the team he was playing with finished the season ranked first overall in the world and fourth at the ISC World Tournament. His 1997 team was third at the ASA National Tournament.
