Hudak Scores Goal As Women's Soccer Team Blanks Yale, 1-0

BOSTON -- Freshman Suzanne Hudak (Harleysville, PA) scored on a 20-yard chip shot and seniors Meghan Lynch (Andover, MA) and Beth Weisman (Potomac, MD) combined for the shutout as the Boston University women's soccer team blanked Yale, 1-0, at B.U.'s Nickerson Field last night (Tuesday).

The win improved the Terriers' record to 6-3-0, as it was the fourth straight win for B.U., tying it for the second-longest winning streak in the four-plus years of the women's soccer program at B.U. During this four-game win streak, the Terriers have outscored their opponents, 12-5.

After a scoreless first half, during which B.U. held the slight edge in shots, 5-4, Hudak scored the game's only goal at 71:35. The assists were to freshman Amanda Lasowecky (Fleetwood, PA), who passed the ball to Hudak just outside the Yale box, and to Deidre Enos.

Yale threatened to score three times in the closing minutes of the game.

Their greatest chance came with just over two minutes to play when Jennie Garver took a direct kick that was headed to the Terrier goal just below the crossbar.

But, Lynch, who played the second half of the game, went leaping at the ball and punched it over the bar.

Earlier, Yale's Ritha Belizaire had a breakaway but the Terriers' Megan Cross had the angle and managed to kick the ball away before Belizaire could get off a shot.

Finally, with a minute to play, the Elis' Lauren Gillies took a shot that was broken up by the Terriers' Nicole Soules.

"This was a real good win for us," said Terrier head coach Nancy Feldman. "We didn't get wins like that last year.

"The keys to the victory were the play of the Beth and Meghan in the goal plus the play of our bench.

"In the first half, Beth handled the ball very well, and the save Meghan made on the direct kick on the second half was a big-time save," continued Feldman. "At the beginning of the year, I said that our goal keepers were going to have to steal three or four games for us this year. Tonight was one of those games.

"I was also very happy with the play of our bench. They made a big difference tonight," said the coach. "Suzanne came off the bench to score the goal, and Nicole Soules came back tonight after missing a couple of games with an injury.

"This was a good win for us tonight," concluded Feldman. "It is always nice to beat the Ivy League."
