BOSTON - The Boston University women’s soccer team is set to host Monmouth on Friday, Aug. 31, as part of the sixth annual Terrier Tailgate at Nickerson Field. First kick is set for 6 p.m.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and fans are encouraged to arrive early, as the first 500 will receive a BU beach towel. During Terrier Tailgate, fans will have the opportunity to participate in contests, giveaways and games such as corn hole, as well as take shots on a basketball hoop and an inflatable goal. The BU cheer and dance teams will provide face painting while Rhett will be in attendance to interact with fans.

Free food will be provided by Dominos and Raising Cane’s for a limited time, and fans will be treated to halftime entertainment by the BU drum line and dance team. There will also be a student dance-off contest and a t-shirt toss giveaway.

BU holds a 2-2-0 record so far this season, including two 3-0 victories over Central Connecticut State and Northeastern. The Terriers look to rebound against the Hawks after a pair of losses, including a 2-1 double overtime loss to Dayton and a 3-1 defeat to No. 7 Boston College.

Senior Brea Hewitt, junior Madison Clemens and sophomore Jamie Turchi lead the team with two goals each while sophomore Taylor Krebs has dished out a team-high two assists. Junior Andrea Green has played all four games in goal for BU and has made 23 saves on the season with a 1.19 goals-against average.

Friday’s game marks the second meeting all-time between BU and Monmouth and the Terriers look to avenge a 2-1 loss to the Hawks on Sept. 6, 2010.

Monmouth arrives in Boston with a 1-2-0 record following a 3-0 loss to Seton Hall on Tuesday night. Junior Dana Costello has scored three of the Hawks’ four goals this season to lead the team with six points while classmate Monique Plescia notched Monmouth’s other goal. Three different Hawks have tallied an assist so far this season.

Sophomore Jocelyn McCoy has played all but one half in net for the Hawks to post a 1-2-0 record. She owns a 3.20 goals-against average and has stopped seven shots for a .467 save percentage.

Head coach Krissy Turner is in her 15th season leading the Hawks and owns a 162-131-28 all-time record. She has guided Monmouth to six consecutive double-digit win seasons and an appearance in the 2011 Northeast Conference championship game.

Next up for the Terriers is a trio of 2011 NCAA tournament teams with the first test coming Monday (Sept. 3) at Harvard. Game time is set for 7 p.m. BU will then head to the West Coast for the Stanford Nike Invitational where they will face reigning national champion Stanford on Friday, Sept. 7, before taking on Santa Clara on Sunday, Sept. 9.
