BOSTON - The No. 19 Boston University women’s soccer team returns to Nickerson Field to host crosstown rival No. 10 Boston College on Sunday night at Nickerson Field. The action is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

Sunday’s match marks the 18th all-time meeting between two of the Northeast’s top programs with the Eagles holding a 12-4-1 advantage over the Terriers. Last season, BU and BC battled to a 1-1 draw in both team’s season openers. Prior to that, the Eagles won the last five installments, including a 2-1 victory over the Terriers in the first round of the 2010 NCAA tournament. BU’s last win over BC occurred in 2006, when the Terriers defeated the Eagles, 1-0, in overtime in the season opener.

BU enters Sunday’s game with a 2-1-0 record following a 2-1 double overtime defeat at Dayton on Thursday, Aug. 23. The Terriers matchup against the Flyers was the NSCAA Women’s College Soccer Game of the Week and broadcast on the Fox Soccer Channel. BU tied the game in the 67th minute with junior Emma Clark’s first goal of the season and forced Dayton into overtime. The two teams battled throughout the first extra period to send the game into a second overtime, where Dayton scored the game winner with 40 seconds remaining.

Senior Brea Hewitt and sophomore Jamie Turchi lead the Terriers with two goals each while Hewitt also has an assist to make her the team leader with five points. Clark and fellow junior Madison Clemens have both recorded one goal while freshman Jenna Fisher has also notched a tally.


 

 

Clemens leads the team with 13 shots and Hewitt ranks second with 10 while both players are tied for first with five shots on target.

After posting a pair of shutouts in her first two career starts, junior goalkeeper Andrea Green allowed two goals against Dayton to raise her goals against average to 0.62. Green owns an. 875 save percentage with 14 stops on the season.

BC arrives at Nickerson Field with a 2-0-0 record following a 4-3 victory at Connecticut on Friday, Aug. 24. Freshman McKenzie Meehan tallied two goals, including the game winner, against the Huskies. Meehan leads the team with three goals while four other Eagles have posted one tally. Senior Kristie Mewis leads the team with a pair of assists.

Senior Alexa Gaul has made both starts in net for BC and has only been tested five times, with all five shots on goal coming from the Huskies. Gaul finished the game with a pair of saves.

Alison Foley is in her 16th season as head coach at BC and owns a 207-103-32 overall record. She has led the team to 11 NCAA berths and the Eagles have advanced to the Sweet 16 seven times while making two trips to the Elite Eight and a Final Four appearance in 2010.

Next up for the Terriers is a home contest against Monmouth on Friday, Aug. 31. First kick is set for 6 p.m. at Nickerson Field.
