BOSTON - The No. 19 Boston University women's soccer team visits Dayton, Ohio on Thursday, Aug. 23, to take on the Dayton Flyers in the NSCAA Women's College Game of the Week on the Fox Soccer Channel. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Baujan Field.

Thursday's game marks the first-ever meeting between BU and Dayton, the 2011 Atlantic 10 champion. It also marks the first game of the NSCAA Women's College Game of the Week series for the 2012 season. The game will be BU's third appearance on the College Game of the Week series and first since the 2009 season. The Terriers are 2-0 when featured on the Fox Soccer Channel with a 4-2 victory at Binghamton on Oct. 9, 2008 and a 1-0 victory when hosting Harvard on Sept. 20, 2009.

After being ranked 23rd in the nation by the NSCAA heading into the season, the Terriers (2-0-0) moved to No. 19 in the first poll of the 2012 campaign following a pair of shutout victories last weekend. In their home and season opener on Friday, Aug. 17, the Terriers blanked Central Connecticut State, 3-0. Junior Andrea Green made her first career start in net against the Blue Devils and stopped all three shots she faced to earn the shutout.

Senior Brea Hewitt recorded the first multi-goal game of her career as she scored the Terriers' first goal of the season in the 30th minute and found the back of the net again in the 77th minute off a feed from junior Megan McGoldrick. Sophomore Jamie Turchi also tallied a goal in the 72nd minute with an assist from classmate Kai Miller.


 

 

BU posted its second consecutive shutout on Sunday, Aug. 19, when the Terriers made the short trip to crosstown rival Northeastern where BU earned another 3-0 victory. After a fairly even first half with the Huskies, the Terriers offense came alive with three goals in the second to capture the win.

Green posted her second straight shutout in net by making four saves while freshman Jenna Fisher scored the first goal of the night in the 58th minute from a dish by sophomore Ana Cuffia. Junior Madison Clemens found the back of the net in the 63rd minute following a pass from sophomore Taylor Krebs while Turchi posted her second goal of the season with an assist from Hewitt in the 75th minute.

Dayton enters Thursday's game with a 1-1-0 record and received 12 votes in the first NSCAA poll of the season. The Flyers opened the season with a 3-2 overtime loss to Texas on Friday, Aug. 17, but bounced back with a 5-1 victory over University of Texas-San Antonio (UTSA) on Sunday.

Junior Juliana Libertin leads the Flyers with a 3-2-8 stat line. After scoring a goal in Dayton's first game, Libertin tallied two goals and a pair of assists over the Roadrunners on Sunday. Senior Colleen Williams has also tallied a goal in each of Dayton's first two games and ranks second on the team with four shots on goal, trailing Libertin's seven shots on goal.

Senior Katherine Boone has started both games in net for the Flyers, posting a 1.88 GAA and a .625 save percentage with five saves. Junior Jordin Melchert played the second half of Dayton's game against UTSA. She holds a 2.00 GAA and .750 save percentage.

BU returns to Boston for a Sunday night match-up with Comm Ave rival Boston College. The Eagles will be the first ranked opponent for BU this season, as BC ranks No. 10 in the NSCAA poll. First kick is set for 7 p.m. at Nickerson Field.
