The Boston University women’s soccer team will welcome six newcomers to the squad’s 2013 roster, head coach Nancy Feldman announced on Tuesday. The Class of 2017 will join 23 returners from last year’s team that captured BU’s sixth straight America East regular season championship.

The additions include Rachel Bloznalis, Bridget Conway, Alex Cooper, Erica Kosienski, Alex Schlobohm and Ellen Starnes.

 “There is a competitive nature that is consistent in the group of seven 2013 recruits that are joining us next fall” said 18th-year head coach Nancy Feldman.


Rachel Bloznalis (5-8 • B • Worcester, Mass. • Nipmc Regional)

Four-year starter and MVP at Nipmuc Regional … Served as captain as a junior and a senior … Named Central Mass All-Star as a freshman … Three-time All-State Selection … Has traveled to Brazil and Russia with Region I ODP team … playes for NEFC club ... Named league All-Star in track and holds league records in 55m and 300m … Also played basketball.

Feldman on Bloznalis: Rachel is a strong and capable defender. She has great range in her passing ability and is strong in the air. She is a natural leader.

Bridget Conway (5-8 • GK • Norwell, Mass. • Norwell)

Four-year starter at Norwell and two-time captain … Named Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic as a senior … 2012 Division III Player of the Year … Four-time All-League All-Star … Scored 22 goals as a freshman … Named 2012 South Shore League MVP and All-New England All-Star … Plays for Scorpions Soccer Club that won state championship every season from 2006 to 2011.

Feldman on Conway: Bridget is a strong and powerful athlete. Getting to know her during the recruiting process, it is clear that with her outgoing personality, she will bring enthusiasm, passion and energy to the team environment.

Alex Cooper (5-5 • M • Newtown, Pa. • The Pennington School)

Served as co-captain as a senior … Led team to four MCT Championships and won the Prep-A title all four seasons … Earned All-Prep First Team and All-Area First Team honors as a junior and a senior … Club team won the 2010 U-15 USYS National Championship … Placed first in the 2010-11 U16 ECNL Challenge.

Feldman on Cooper: Alex is a mobile and aggressive attacking personality. She is a very confident 1v1 attacker and makes an impact with her tenacity and her attitude to penetrate in attack.

Erica Kosienski (5-4 • F • Southington, Conn. • Southington)

Four-time All-Conference honoree …Named to the All-State and All-New England team as a senior … finished h.s career with 47 goals and 21 assists ... Plays her club soccer with SoccerPlus ECNL ... Played softball and ran track.

Feldman on Kosienski: Erica is a target forward who can play back to the goal and make penetrating runs. She finds a way to get the ball in the box and get opportunities on goal. She is a true goal scorer.

Alex Schlobohm (5-2 • F • New Providence, N.J. • New Providence)

Led New Providence to a pair of state championships … Two-time All-State honoree … Earned All-County and All-Conference honors as a sophomore and junior … Served as team captain as a senior … Played club soccer for PDA, which was named the No. 1 soccer club in the nation in 2010 by ECNL … Member of the New Jersey ODP team from 2010 to 2012 … Also a conference champion in the 400m in outdoor track.

Feldman on Schlobohm: Alex is a dynamic and lightening quick attacker. She has the special quality to separate and get in behind defenses.

Ellen Starnes (5-6 • M • Carrollton, Texas • Hebron)

Served as captain as a senior … Also plays for FC Dallas ECNL cub team … Two-time All-District honoree … Also ran cross country.

Feldman on Starnes: Ellen has a terrific work rate and a competitive attitude. She can be a left-sided player that is technically sound. She is another member of this class that has the ability to offer positional versatility.
