VESTAL, N.Y. - Behind a goal from freshman Clare Pleuler, the Boston University women’s soccer team clinched a share of the America East regular season title with a 1-0 win over Binghamton on Sunday afternoon at the Bearcats Sports Complex. BU earned its eighth straight victory to improve to 11-5-1 on the season and a perfect 7-0-0 in America East action.

The Terriers earned their 31st consecutive win over conference opponents while the Bearcats dropped their sixth straight league game to move to 6-8-1 (0-5-1 AE). With the victory, BU guarantees itself at least a share of America East regular season crown for the sixth consecutive season. The Terriers have captured the regular season title nine times overall.

BU can claim the title outright with a win next Sunday against New Hampshire or if Hartford loses its final two conference matches.

Pleuler scored her second career goal as a Terrier in the 47th minute of the contest off a feed from senior Megan McGoldrick for BU’s game-winning goal. The freshman booted the ball with her right foot from 16 yards out and the shot banked off the far post and past Binghamton keeper Carrie Martin for the tally.

Junior goalkeeper Andrea Green earned her seventh shutout of the season with four saves to improve to 10-5-1 on the year.

The Terriers and Bearcats finished even with 11 shots apiece and there were four shots on target on each side. BU had the momentum early in the game, with seven shots in the first frame with four on target, while Binghamton took over in the latter half of the game with eight strikes in the second half.

Carrie Martin played the entire game in net for the Bearcats and made four saves on the afternoon while allowing one goal.
