BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team (0-1-0) opened its season with a 1-0 loss to No. 14 Boston College (1-0-0) on Saturday evening at Nickerson Field. The Eagles tallied the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute. Sophomore netminder Janie Reilly played a solid game for the Terriers, recording eight saves.

In the first half, the Terriers were able to pressure BC's defense with a majority of the action in the offensive zone; however, BU found itself in a 1-0 deficit when the Eagles struck at 31:56 off a feed from junior Gina DiMartino to freshman Julia Bouchelle. Bouchelle struck it from just outside 18-yard box to the far left post for the go-ahead tally. With under two minutes remaining in the first half, Reilly made a diving save off a point-blank shot to keep BU within one goal of the Eagles.

In the second stanza, junior Farrell McClernon put pressure on BC goalkeeper Jill Mastroianni when she fired off a shot inside the 18 that went just right of the post and then followed it up with a point-blank shot on goal. Senior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge continued to keep Mastroianni on her toes, forcing her to make a leaping save to her right with a under nine minutes remaining in regulation with a rocket to the upper corner. Mastroianni finished with three saves to earn the shutout.

The Terriers will return to action on Thursday, Aug. 28 when they travel to URI for a 7:00 p.m. game.
