BOSTON - The Boston University lacrosse team will welcome seven newcomers to the squad's 2011 roster, head coach Liz Robertshaw announced. The Class of 2014 joins 16 returning letter winners who helped the Terriers capture their sixth straight America East title in 2010.
The additions include attackers Kameryn Downing and Elizabeth Morse; midfielders Becca Church and Sydney Godett; defenders Shannon Gilroy and Christie Hart; and goalkeeper Christina Sheridan.
"The Class of 2014 is a good, hard-working group of student-athletes," said Robertshaw. "They have championship experience and will help the team reach the next level. It's a strong class at each position and they're a group that will do the things we believe in here at BU."
Becca Church (M 5'6" Madison, Conn. Daniel Hand)
Four-year member of the Daniel Hand High School girls' lacrosse team ... Helped lead the Tigers to the Southern Connecticut Conference title in 2007, 2008 and 2010 ... Member of the All-SCC First Team as a senior and garnered second-team honors as a sophomore and freshman ... Named first team all-state as a senior and tabbed second-team all-state as a junior.
Robertshaw on Church: "Becca is a great midfielder who had a stellar senior year. She has a ton of potential and I'm excited to see what she can do. I'm looking for her to make an immediate impact on the team."
Kameryn Downing (A 5'8" Cherry Hills Village, Colo. Cherry Creek)
Served as team captain for Cherry Creek High School as a senior ... Helped lead the team to the state championship in 2007, 2008 and 2010 ... Named a US Lacrosse First Team All-American and Academic All-American as a senior ... Garnered team MVP honors and was a finalist for school's athlete of the year ... Two-time first-team all-state member (2009, 2010) and three-time All-Centennial League First Team member (2008-10) ... Received US Lacrosse All-America honorable mention accolades as a junior.
Robertshaw on Downing: "Kameryn is a smart attacker who is a good goal scorer. She sees the game very well and is a natural fit for our system."
Shannon Gilroy (D 5'6" Sudbury, Mass. Lincoln Sudbury Regional)
Member of the Lincoln Sudbury Regional High School girls' lacrosse team ... Team captain as a senior and garnered All-Dual County League recognition ... Named team MVP as a senior and received team's best defenseman award as a senior and junior.
Robertshaw on Gilroy: "Shannon comes from a great family of student-athletes here at BU with her brothers Matt (2005-09) and Kevin (2008-pres.) playing for the men's ice hockey team. She has a passion for the University and the game. She's an aggressive defender who will make big stops and was extremely instrumental to her team's success."
Sydney Godett (M 5'4" Boxford, Mass. Masconomet Regional)
Served as captain as a senior at Masconomet Regional High School ... Named the 2010 Cape Ann League Player of the Year and Masconomet's Female Athlete of the Year ... Two-time member of the All-Cape Ann League First Team (2009, 2010) ... Helped lead her team to the Cape Ann League championship as a junior and garnered all-state honorable mention recognition ... Named a Cape Ann League all-star as a sophomore ... A three-time scholar-athlete (2007-09) ... Member of the Revolution Lacrosse club team.
Robertshaw on Godett: "Sydney is a work horse and I expect her to come in here and push all the players around her. She brings a strong work element that the program prides itself on."
Christie Hart (D 5'2" Upperco, Md. McDonogh School)
Three-year member of the McDonogh School varsity girls' lacrosse team ... Helped lead the team to the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland championship as a senior and junior ... Team captain as a senior ... As a sophomore, helped lead the team to the state championship game.
Robertshaw on Hart: "Christie is a feisty defender who has an infectious attitude. She's the type of person who can be really aggressive on the field and then give you a big smile afterwards. She fits into our team system and style well."
Elizabeth Morse (A 5'7" Needham, Mass. Needham)
Member of the Needham High School girls' lacrosse team for four years ... As a senior, named a US Lacrosse First Team All-American ... Garnered All-Bay State League and All-Eastern Massachusetts Girls' Lacrosse Coaches Association First Team honors ... Member of the The Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic First Team ... Named team MVP ... Also received All-Bay State League First Team recognition as a junior and sophomore ... Named to the All-EMGLCA Second Team as a junior.
Robertshaw on Morse: "Elizabeth is a smart attacker who came into her own the past year. She's a smart player behind the crease and a great feeder from up top. She should provide an immediate impact within our attacking system."
Christina Sheridan (G 5'4" Ellicott City, Md. Our Lady of Good Counsel)
Helped lead Our Lady of Good Counsel to four Washington Catholic Athletic Conference titles (2007-10) ... Served as team captain during senior and junior seasons ... Named to the US Lacrosse All-America and All-Academic Teams as a senior ... Named school's outstanding female athlete of the year ... Three-time member of the All-Met Second Team (2008-10) ... As a junior, named the WCAC championship game MVP ... Garnered All-Met Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore.
Robertshaw on Sheridan: "Christina is a great goalie who brings a tremendous amount of experience from a championship-winning program. She has an excellent work ethic and attitude and will be a great complement to Kim Elsworth in the cage."
