Dalton Named First-Team All-American as Five Terriers Honored by IWLCA
May 29, 2009
BOSTON - Boston University senior midfielder Sarah Dalton was named a first-team All-American for the second straight year, headlining a group of five Terriers earning All-America or All-Region honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) and US Lacrosse, as announced on Thursday. Senior defender Kelly Munroe and junior attacker McKinley Curro also earned All-America honors, while junior attack Erica Baumgartner and junior midfielder Traci Landy garnered Northeast All-Region accolades. Dalton picked up her third All-America honor after earning a third-team nod in 2007 and a first-team selection last season. A first-team All-Region selection for the third straight year, Dalton led the nation with 91 goals this season, fifth-most in NCAA history, to shatter her own previous BU record of 71 goals in a single season. She finished with 102 points to tie that program record as well. The Cornwall, Vt., native, a member of the US Lacrosse Developmental Team, was a unanimous selection for her second straight America East Player of the Year award and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the America East Championship after scoring a tournament-record 11 goals. Dalton was also named to All-America teams by WomensLax.com and WomensLacrosse.com. Munroe was selected to the All-America third team and earned her second straight first-team All-Region nod. She has been the backbone of the Terriers' defense, starting every game for the past three seasons. She tallied 23 ground balls, 24 draw controls and 18 caused turnovers in her senior campaign. A native of Westwood, Mass., and a member of the US Lacrosse Developmental Team, Munroe was named to the America East All-Conference First Team for the second straight season.
Curro was named a third-team All-American and first-team All-Region after a breakout junior campaign that led to her first All-Conference bid, a unanimous first-team selection, after tallying a career-high 71 points on the strength of 40 goals and 31 assists. A native of Amherst, N.H., Curro started every game this season and ranked second on the team and third in the conference in scoring. Baumgartner was a second-team All-Region selection after tying teammate Xan Weitzel to lead the league and rank eighth in the nation with 39 assists, third-most in BU history. With 89 career assists, she leads all active juniors nationwide. The Silver Spring, Md., native earned her second straight All-Conference bid as well this season. Landy was named to the All-Region second team for the second straight year. She finished second on the team and third in the league with a career-best 56 goals in her junior campaign. The Seaford, N.Y., native has also controlled 32 draws this season to repeat as an All-Conference honoree. The All-Americans will be honored by the IWLCA and US Lacrosse at a banquet on June 13 in King of Prussia, Pa. |
