BOSTON, MA (April 24) - Sophomore attack Ericka Hergenroeder (Annapolis, MD) scored four goals and assisted on two other, and senior attack Jen Manning scored four goals including the 100th of her career as the 10th-ranked Terriers defeated New Hampshire, 15-11, in a battle for first place in America East April 24 at Nickerson Field.
Manning scored her 99th career goal at 21:22 from junior Renee Vanderbrug (Lexington,MA) as the Terriers tied the score at 1-1.
B.U. (12-3, 5-0) jumped out to a 5-1 lead as Manning wrinkled the net for the 100th career goal at 11:47 of the first half.
New Hampshire (6-8, 3-2) came back to cut the deficit to 8-5 at intermission as senior attack Stephanie Keefe (Newton, MA) scored two of her four goals on the day in the final four minutes of the half.
In the second half, the Terriers assaulted the New Hampshire goal as Hergenroeder, junior midfielder Chrissy Lombard (Ellicott City, MD), junior attack Kyle Rutkowski (Ellicott City, MD) each scored within a minute of each other forcing UNH to switch goalies.
Leading 14-5 with 16:54 to play in the game, head coach Sue Murphy slowly emptied her bench to give players who don't play very much some valuable playing experience.
The Wildcats used the opportunity to sneak back in the game, but their late effort fell short.
B.U.'s Brooke Barrett (Bel Air, MD), who leads all Division I goalies in goals against average, made 7 saves in the win.
B.U. is back in action on Sunday, April 30 in the America East regular season finale against Hofstra at 12 noon.
