Lombard Named America East Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week



BOSTON, MA (April 10) - Boston University junior midfielder Chrissy Lombard (Ellicott City, MD) has been named America East Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week for the week ending April 9th.

The honor is Lombard's second Player of the Week award. She also took home the honor for the week ending March 22nd. Lombard and sophomore defender Kristin Abruzzese (Medford, NJ) are the two Terriers who have earned conference recognition this season. Abruzzese had been named the America East Defender of the Week for the last two weeks.

Lombard, last season's America East Player of the Year, led the No. 11 Terriers to two wins last week with 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points. Against Harvard on Wednesday, April 5th, Lombard tallied 4 goals and an assist in B.U.'s 12-2 win, and versus No. 19 Old Dominion on Sunday, April 9th, she scored 2 goals and added 2 assists as the Terriers defeated ODU for the first time in program history, 10-6.

The conference honor is the first for Lombard this season. She was also named InsideLacrosse.com Honorable Mention Player of the Week this week. Lombard currently leads the Terriers in scoring with 23 goals and 11 assists for 34 points.

In B.U.'s win over Old Dominion, Lombard moved into second place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 156 career points. She moved past senior teammate Jen Manning (Annapolis, MD) who has 95-59-154. A Third Team Brine/IWLCA All-American selection last season, Lombard now has 112 goals and 44 assists in her 43-game B.U. career.

In her last five games, Lombard has scored 21 points on 15 goals and 6 assists.

The Terriers (8-1, 2-0 America East), have held their opponents to nine goals or less in each of their seven games. While the defense is doing its part, offensively B.U. has scored 97 goals, for a plus 5.9 scoring margin, 7th nationally. B.U. is also ranked 4th in winning percentage (.889) with its 8-1 record.

B.U., which has won 24 of its last 30 games, is 29-10 (.743) in games when it holds its opponent under 10 goals, and is 30-7 (.810) when scoring 10 or more goals in the Sue Murphy era.

The Terriers, who are 3-1 against teams ranked in the top-20, travel to No. 9 Dartmouth on Tuesday, April 9th to play the Big Green at 3:30 p.m., and host America East foes Towson on Friday, April 14th at 3:30 p.m., and No. 7 Delaware on Sunday, April 16th at 12 noon.
