After falling for the first time this season with a loss Sunday, the No. 16/18 Boston University women's lacrosse team will look to get back on the winning track as it faces No. 10 Vanderbilt Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. in Nashville, Tenn.
Boston University (2-1, 0-0 AE) is 3-2 all-time against the Commodores, including a 9-8 overtime loss for the Terriers in 2000. The teams last met in 2001, with BU taking the 15-7 victory.
The Terriers (2-1, 0-0 AE) are coming off a 19-10 loss against No. 1 Northwestern on Sunday in Evanston, Ill. It was a close game midway through the first half, with Northwestern holding a slight advantage at 6-4. However, the Wildcats then went on a run, scoring 12 of the next 15 goals to build a formidable 18-7 lead. Senior co-captain Lauren Morton scored three goals, raising her team-leading total to nine. She also controlled four draws, bringing her record-setting career total to 146. Junior Sarah Dalton also netted three goals in her return to action, after missing the first two games of the season with an injury. Her second goal of the game gave her 100 for her career, becoming the 12th player in Terrier history to accomplish that feat. Sophomore Rachel Klein also set a personal best, recording 14 saves in the game.
Wednesday's match-up will feature two of the four returning players who recorded 50 goals and 50 draw controls during the 2007 season. Dalton completed the task with 52 goals and 56 draw controls, one of two underclassmen to accomplish the feat last season, while Vanderbilt senior Margie Curran had 50 goals and 56 draw controls a year ago.
Sophomore Sarah Downing heads the Commodores in both assists (10) and points (28), also causing a team-high 11 turnovers, while sharing the top spot for goals with 18. Curran also has 18 goals, along with 27 points and 25 draw controls. Senior Brooke Shinaberry has spent the majority of the team's minutes in goal, earning a .440 save percentage and a 8.55 goals against average.
