BOSTON - Behind a commanding 19-6 advantage in draw controls and six players with multi-goal efforts, the top-seeded and eighth-ranked Boston University lacrosse team posted a 17-6 win over fourth-seeded Albany in the semifinal round of the America East Championship on Friday afternoon at Nickerson Field. The Terriers, which will be making their 10th straight appearance in the league title game, will face third-seeded New Hampshire - a 15-6 winner over No. 2 seed Vermont - on Sunday at 1 p.m.

BU, which will be looking to become the first America East team to win four straight league titles, extended its win streak to 12 games - two shy of the program record - and improved to 15-2 on the year. Albany ends its season with a record of 8-9.

Sophomore Traci Landy tied her career highs in goals (4) and points (5), while classmate Xan Weitzel also had a five-point afternoon, tallying two goals and a game-high three assists. Fellow sophomore McKinley Curro scored twice and added a pair of assists, while senior co-captain Lauren Morton had a three-goal performance. Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Klein made five stops between the pipes.

Albany was paced by freshman Jodi Battaglia, who recorded two goals. Junior goalkeeper Katie Neer made four saves in the contest.

BU scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back, taking a 11-2 lead into halftime before making it a 15-2 affair with just over 23 minutes left in regulation.

Landy opened the scoring at 26:10 before Curro bounced a shot past Neer 40 seconds later. Junior Sarah Dalton, who tallied two goals and an assist, made it a 3-0 game off a pass from Weitzel exactly six minutes into the opening half.

 

 

Morton, Landy and Weitzel completed the six-goal run before Battaglia got the Great Danes on the board at 17:03. BU scored five of the half's final six goals, including two from junior Steph Walker, to take a nine-goal lead into the break. The Terriers tacked on the first four goals of the latter half to put the game out of reach.

Senior co-captain Molly Collins collected a game-high five draw controls and added a goal, while junior Kelly Munroe and Morton each earned four draws and two caused turnovers. BU's final goal of the game came from the stick of freshman Alyssa Kovach.

BU nearly doubled Albany in shots (31-16), while the Great Danes held a 13-9 advantage in ground balls. Each team had one free-position chance and it was converted on both occasions.
