WAKEFIELD, Mass. – Two members of the No. 3 Boston University women’s ice hockey team earned monthly honors from Hockey East, as junior co-captain Marie-Philip Poulin was named Co-Player of the Month and freshman Sarah Lefort was recognized as Rookie of the Month, the league office announced on Thursday.
Poulin (Beauceville, Que.) notched at least one point in all nine games in October, finishing with four goals and 12 assists for 16 points. She leads the league in points, assists and plus-minus (+10), having never registered a minus rating in any game. Poulin also had six multi-point games in October and averaged a league-best 1.78 points per game. The Beauceville, Que., native factored on four game-winning goals, scoring one and adding the primary assist on two others.
Lefort (Ormstown, Que.) made an immediate impact with the Terriers, as she scored a goal in her first four collegiate games and finished the month with eight goals and two assists for 10 points. She leads all league rookies in goals, points and plus-minus (+9). Her three game-winning goals, including two against ranked teams, is tops in the league and the nation.
The Terriers completed October with a 7-2-0 record and a 3-1-0 mark in Hockey East play. They will continue their schedule on Saturday (Nov. 3) when they travel to Boston College. Game time is set for 2 p.m. BU will be without Poulin, who will be representing Team Canada at the Four Nations Cup in Finland. The tournament takes place from Nov. 6-10, with Poulin joining former Terriers Jenn Wakefield (’12), Catherine Ward (’11) and Tara Watchorn (’12) on Team Canada.
