BOSTON - Coming off the program’s second Hockey East title in three seasons and third consecutive NCAA tournament appearance, the Boston University women’s ice hockey team and head coach Brian Durocher have announced the team’s 2012-13 schedule.

The Terriers, now in their eighth year as a varsity program, will play three exhibition games and 31 regular-season contests, including 19 at Walter Brown Arena and one at Agganis Arena. The schedule is highlighted by 15 contests against teams that were ranked or received votes in last season's final USCHO.com poll.

BU will begin its season with an exhibition contest against McGill University on Sept. 30 before the Terriers begin their title defense at Boston College on Oct. 5. After an exhibition against the Boston Blades of the CWHL on Oct. 6, the Terriers will raise another banner to the Walter Brown Arena rafters on Oct. 12 prior to their home-opener against Rensselaer. The next day, BU will host Union before continuing its eight-game homestand on Oct. 16 against Northeastern.

History will be made on Oct. 20, as BU welcomes Cornell to Agganis Arena for the first of a two-game set during Parents’ Weekend. It will be the first time the Terriers will play a night game at Agganis, as the puck will drop at 7 p.m. The two teams met in the NCAA quarterfinals last season, with the Big Red edging the Terriers, 8-7, in a historic triple-overtime game. After finishing the series with Cornell at Walter Brown Arena on Oct. 21, BU will conclude October with games against Maine (Oct. 26), Robert Morris (Oct. 27) and BC (Oct. 31).

After closing out a home-and-home series with BC on Nov. 3, the Terriers will travel to New Hampshire on Nov. 9. A rematch of the 2012 Hockey East title game will take place on Nov. 16 when Providence visits Walter Brown. BU will entertain Harvard on Nov. 18 before a post-Thanksgiving exhibition against the Russian national team on Nov. 26. BU will then begin a home-and-home series at Providence on Nov. 30 before the Friars return to Boston on Dec. 1. The Terriers will then make their longest road trip of the season to close the first semester when they trek to Minnesota-Duluth for a two-game set on Dec. 8-9.

“The 2012-13 schedule will once again challenge our team night in and night out not only in Hockey East but in our very competitive non-league schedule,” Durocher said. “It will be exciting to have some international flavor with perennial Canadian power McGill as our exhibition opener and then the Russian national team coming to Boston in late November. “

January features four road games, including three straight to open the month. BU will head to Connecticut on Jan. 8, followed by a two-game series at Maine (Jan. 12-13). After a home game against Northeastern on Jan. 16, the Terriers will visit Vermont on Jan. 25 before they close the month against New Hampshire on Jan. 27.

Three of the Terriers’ first four games in February will take place at Matthews Arena, beginning a league game at Northeastern on Feb. 2. The two teams will then meet in the first round of the 35th annual Women’s Beanpot on Feb. 5 in a rematch of last year’s title game. After a home game against New Hampshire on Feb. 9, the Terriers will play either BC or Harvard on the second Tuesday of the Beanpot (Feb. 12).

The regular-season slate concludes with three of the final four fixtures taking place at home. Vermont will be in Boston for a pair of games (Feb. 16-17) before Connecticut closes out the home schedule on Feb. 23. BU will make a return trip to Connecticut the next afternoon to wrap up the regular season before the Hockey East playoffs commence.
