CALGARY, Alta. – Six members of the Boston University women’s ice hockey team were invited to Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team selection camp, which will take place Aug. 2-13 at the WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex.

Juniors Shannon Doyle and Kaleigh Fratkin are among 12 defensemen at the camp, while freshman Sarah Lefort, senior Isabel Menard, junior Marie-Philip Poulin and sophomore Kayla Tutino are among the 24 forwards who help comprise the 40-player roster.

All six Terriers that were invited to the camp have international experience. Poulin scored both goals in Canada’s 2-0 gold-medal win over the United States at the 2010 Olympics and was also a part of the team that won gold at the 2012 IIHF Women’s World Championship. Lefort won gold with the Under-18 team at the 2012 IIHF U18 Women’s World Championship, while Doyle won gold with the U-18 team in 2010.

Tutino played with Fratkin on the U-18 team in the 2010 series with Team USA, and Fratkin was also on the U-18 team that won silver at the U18 Women’s World Championship in 2009. Menard has been on the U-22 team twice, winning gold at the 2011 MLP Cup and bronze at the 2012 Meco Cup.

From the selection camp, Hockey Canada will choose 22 players for a three-game series against the United States’ Women’s Under-22 Select Team, scheduled for Aug. 14-19 in Calgary. Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team’s coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2012-13 season, in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will compete at the 2013 Meco Cup next January in Germany.
