June 9, 2009
WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Junior Jenn Arms of the Boston University women's ice hockey team has been named one of Hockey East's Top Scholar-Athletes, leading a group of 11 Terriers who were honored for their academic performance this year, as announced by the conference on Tuesday. Seniors Caroline Bourdeau and Sarah Russell achieved Distinguished Scholar status. Also named to the Women's Hockey East All-Academic Team were seniors Kelley Karnan, Gina Kearns, Caitlin Reddy, Erin Seman and Nicki Wiart, junior Ashley Leichliter, sophomore Jillian Kirchner and freshman Kasey Boucher. Arms, a native of Chapin, S.C., earned a grade-point average of 4.0 over her junior year, matching the marks posted by Kate Applin of Northeastern to share Hockey East's top academic honor. Arms also earned a spot on the Academic All-Star Team as one of the two defensemen with the highest GPA. She has been named to the Hockey East All-Academic Team each year she has been at BU. Bourdeau and Russell are the first Terriers to earn the Distinguished Scholar honor, awarded for maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or better in each semester over four varsity seasons. Seman is making her third appearance on the Hockey East All-Academic Team, while Kearns, Reddy and Wiart are each being honored for the second time. In all, 92 student-athletes from the eight-team league earned All-Academic honors. Each student-athlete achieved a GPA of 3.0 or better in each of the two academic periods during which she was actively competing.
