BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team honored the 2010-11 squad at its annual banquet at the Metcalf Trustee Center on Saturday, May 7.

Graduate student Catherine Ward and seniors Lauren Cherewyk, Jillian Kirchner and Holly Lorms were honored by their teammates and coaches for their dedication and accomplishments with the program. Cherewyk was also the recipient of the team's strength and conditioning award.

Head coach Brian Durocher gave tributes to the departing seniors, while assistant coaches Allison Coomey and Katie Lachapelle produced videos highlighting both the Class of 2011 and the 2010-11 season.

BU's first All-American, Ward received team MVP honors after a record-setting season. The Montreal, Que., native set a program single-season record in assists (27) and garnered Hockey East First-Team All-Star recognition. She was also named the league's best defenseman and earned New England All-Star status.

Sophomore Kathryn Miller earned most improved player recognition after nearly tripling her point production from a year ago. The defenseman collected four goals and 10 assists and was a mainstay on the Terrier blue line as BU became the first Hockey East school to play in the national championship game.

Freshman forward Louise Warren garnered the Friends of Hockey Unsung Hero Award after an impressive rookie campaign. One of BU's top defensive forwards, the Pembroke, Ont., native also made a strong contribution on the scoresheet, totaling 10 points (5g, 5a).

In addition, freshman Anya Battaglino was named the recipient of the Caroline Bourdeau Spirit Award and sophomore Alissa Fromkin earned Scholar-Athlete honors.

Along with the announcements of the yearly awards, junior Jenn Wakefield was named captain of the 2011-12 squad. Classmates Kasey Boucher and Carly Warren and freshman Marie-Philip Poulin will serve as assistant captains.
