WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Junior goaltender Kerrin Sperry of the Boston University women's ice hockey team was named Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Sperry made 23 saves as the Terriers topped Northeastern, 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at Walter Brown Arena. With BU holding a 4-2 lead, she stopped all 10 shots she faced in the third period to preserve the win. Sperry made six of those saves during five Husky power plays in the final frame.

The North Reading, Mass., native has now won her last five starts and is unbeaten in her last 12 games (9-0-3). She earned Defensive Player of the Week honors from the league on three other occasions (Dec. 10, Nov. 19, Oct. 22) and has now won that award more than any other goaltender this season.

BU will be back in action on Tuesday, when the Terriers travel to Northeastern to face the Huskies in the opening round of the 35th annual Women's Beanpot. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m., with Boston College and Harvard facing off in the first game at 5 p.m.
