The Last Meeting
November 3, 2012
Chestnut Hill, Mass.
The No. 8 Boston University women's ice hockey team will host No. 7 Boston College on Wednesday night at Walter Brown Arena. Puck drop is slated for 7 p.m.
It will be the first time BU (15-3-1, 8-0-0 WHEA) and BC (12-4-2, 7-1-0 WHEA) will meet since Nov. 3, 2012, when the teams skated to a 5-5 tie. The Terriers have a two-point lead over the Eagles in the Hockey East standings entering Wednesday night; BU edged BC for the 2012-13 regular-season title by just one point.
The Terriers opened 2014 with a 3-2 win over Dartmouth on Jan. 4 to extend their home win streak to 20 games. BC was the last team to defeat the Terriers at Walter Brown, earning two points on Oct. 31, 2012. BU has lost just one league game since then and enters Wednesday's contest on a 23-game Hockey East win streak.
Sophomore Sarah Lefort leads the NCAA with 16 goals and is tied for the national lead with five game-winning goals, including the clincher on Saturday against Dartmouth. She tallied two markers and collected two assists in three games against BC last season.
Senior goaltender Kerrin Sperry has been sharp in her three-year career against BC. The North Reading, Mass., native has three shutouts and has earned all six of the Terriers' wins against the Eagles over the past three seasons, allowing just five goals in those contests.
BC enters Wednesday having been idle for over a month. The Eagles have not played since a 1-1 tie at Harvard on Dec. 7. Sophomore Haley Skarupa leads the team in goals (13), assists (12) and points (25). Junior Emily Field (10g, 8a) is second with 18 points and six other skaters have notched at least 10 points. BC has the top-ranked offense in the league (3.56 GPG) and the second-ranked defense (2.06) behind BU (2.00). Senior goaltender Corinne Boyles owns a 1.95 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage in 15 starts en route to a 9-4-1 record.
Following Wednesday's contest, BU will hit the road to conclude its season series with Maine. Game time in Orono is set for 3 p.m.
