BOSTON - The No. 10 Boston University women's ice hockey team recorded its first win of the season, downing Robert Morris 4-3 in overtime Friday night at Walter Brown Arena in a non-conference contest. The win pushes the Terriers to 1-0-2 overall on the season while the Colonials slip to 1-2-0 on the year.

A slow-starting first period came to life as the Terriers turned up the heat on RMU goalie Daneca Butterfield. With 6:07 to go in the period, Holly Lorms found co-captain Sarah Appleton at the top of the left face-off circle and the senior rocketed home her first goal of the season to give the Terrier a 1-0 lead. BU added to its margin with 1:20 left in the opening stanza as sophomore Kasey Boucher buried her first career goal off a pass from freshman Jill Cardella to put the hosts up 2-0 at the first break.

Boucher wasted little time notching her second career score as the sophomore pounced on a rebound off a Laurel Koller shot and put the puck away for a 3-0 lead. The goal marked Boucher's first-ever multi-point game. The teams traded penalties late in the period, but neither could take advantage of the power play and the period ended with BU up 3-0.

Penalties began to haunt the Terriers in the third period as the visitors capitalized on key power play chances. After a BU major was called, the Colonials capitalized twice on the five-on-four advantage. Sophomore Brianna Delaney got Robert Morris on the board with a goal at 14:52 from a Jackie Gibson feed, and Gibson made it a 3-2 game two minutes later with her first goal of the season. Captain Whitney Pappas completed the comeback for RMU with her second tally of the year, netting the equalizer unassisted with 9:15 showing on the clock. Heavy pressure from BU end the end of the period did not result in the game-winner and for the third time in as many games this season, the game went to overtime.

BU kept up the pressure throughout the overtime period and it was all Butterfield could do to turn away the promising BU attempts. A checking penalty with 1:25 left opened the door for the Terriers and they did not miss on the man-up opportunity. Boucher controlled the puck at the right point and winged a pass to Lauren Cherewyk on the other side of the net, who buried the slapshot with 23.7 seconds left in the game. The goal was Cherewyk's second of the season and her sixth game-winner in her career, tying her with Melissa Anderson for third on the all-time list.

After a three-game homestand, the Terriers embark on their first road trip of the season, squaring off against Wayne State in Detroit, Mich, on Friday, Oct. 16 and again on Saturday, Oct. 17. The games are scheduled for 7 p.m., and 4 p.m., respectively.
