BOSTON - The Boston University women's ice hockey team earned its fourth consecutive win Sunday, defeating conference rival Northeastern, 3-1, at Matthews Arena. Sophomore Melissa Anderson scored her team high eighth goal to start off the afternoon, followed by goals from both freshman Lauren Cherewky and junior Caroline Bourdeau. Freshman Jillian Kirchner also notched her team-leading 11th assist and eighth in the past five games.

Entering the 2008 stretch of the season, which is loaded with conference competition, the Terriers continued their winning ways. After taking three games from Hockey East opponents in a four-game winning streak at the end of 2007, Boston University charged out of the gates against Northeastern, scoring twice in the first period off 24 shots on goal.

Sophomore Melissa Anderson got the Terriers on the board with her team-leading seventh goal just 4:58 into the game. Junior co-captain Sarah Russell sent a crossing pass to senior Julie Poulin just inside of the blue line on the Northeastern end. Poulin powered a shot that would have missed just wide of goal, but Anderson got a stick on the puck and redirected it into the net.

Boston University struck again at 13:22 of the first period on freshman Lauren Cherewyk's third goal of the season. Anderson collected the puck on defense and forwarded it to junior Erin Seman, who found Cherewky open around center ice. Cherewyk skated towards goal, getting past a Husky defender on the one-on-one match-up to send the score into the upper left-hand corner of goal

BU outshot Northeastern 24-6 in the first period, leaving several opportunities on the ice as both freshman Jillian Kirchner and senior Stephanie Armstrong put some impressive plays together on the offensive end of the ice.

Northeastern cut the lead to one in the waning seconds of the second period, as freshman Alyssa Wohlfeiler received a pass from sophomore Annie Hogan as she crossed center ice. Wohlfeiler raced down the ice, faking junior co-captain Sarah Russell just outside of goal and sending the shot home.

The Terriers rebuilt their two goal lead just 1:14 into the final frame, junior Caroline Bourdeau scored her second of the season and Kirchner notched her team-leading 11th assist, her eighth in the past five games. Kirchner won the puck behind the Northeastern goal and attempted to wrap a shot around the post. After the shot missed, Kirchner regained control and directed a pass towards Bourdeau in front of the net. Bourdeau lined up her shot and found a gap on the goaltender's stick side go give BU a 3-1 lead.

Junior Allyse Wilcox had an impressive game between the pipes, making some spectacular stops en route to a 23 save performance. Her one goal allowed lowers her goals against average to 1.77, good for eighth best in the nation. Wilcox's .929 save percentage is also ranked eighth in the nation.

BU next sees action against Connecticut on Saturday at Agganis Arena at 3:00 p.m.
