#14 Terriers Field Hockey Downs Richmond 5-3



Jane Rogers' two goals puts Terriers back on winning track BOSTON, MA (October 3) - Senior forward Jaclyn Mele (Fairfield, NJ) recorded her fourth game-winning goal of the season with 3:45 remaining in regulation to lift the No. 14 ranked Boston University field hockey team to a 5-3 win over Richmond at Old Dominion's Foreman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Terriers got on the board first as sophomore forward Jane Rogers (Watertown, MA) tallied her sixth goal of the season at 31:29 of the first half.

Junior Kelly Clothier (Philadelphia, PA) scored her third goal of the season at 21:57 from DeCoste making it 2-0 B.U.

With just over 10 minutes left to play in the first half, junior midfielder Robyn Kenney (Whitehouse Station, NJ) pushed the Terrier advantage to 3-0 before Richmond's Heather Rice cut the B.U. lead to 3-1 at intermission.

Richmond staged a furious comeback in the second half scoring two goals less than two minutes apart to tie the game at 3-3. Jess D'Attrui's goal cut the Terrier lead to 3-2 with 7:45 to go in the game. At 5:25 Kristin Gavin knotted the game at 3-3.

Mele connected the game-winner from Rogers at 3:45, then Rogers added an insurance goal, her team-leading seven goal of the season, from DeCoste at 1:26 to give Sally Starr's squad a hard fough 5-3 win.

Richmond goalie Brooke Fuller had 22 saves, while her B.U. counterparts senior Noreen Flanagan (Red Bank, NJ) and sophomore Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) combined for two saves.

The Terriers outshot the Spiders ,30 -10, and held the advantage in penalty corner situations,17-2.

B.U. is 2-0 all-time versus Richmond.

The Terriers return to the field on Wednesday, October 6 to play Massachusetts at Boston University's Nickerson Field at 7 p.m.
