Late B. U. Rally Not Enough As UNH Escapes With 3-2 Victory

BOXSCORE

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Down 3-0 with 4:19 left in its conference-opening game against the University of New Hampshire, Boston University scored two goals in the next 1:13 to pull to within one of the Wildcats. The Terriers couldn't add the equalizer and fell to UNH, 3-2, at Jack Barry Field on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

New Hampshire (4-4, 1-0 America East) controlled the action in the first half, getting unassisted goals by sophomore Katie White 16:52 into the game and freshman Caitlin Gillen with 32 left in the opening half to take a 2-0 lead into the intermission. UNH was credited with four shots and three penalty corners in the half, while B. U. did not record a shot and had only one corner.

B. U. (4-3, 0-1 America East) turned the tables in the second half, but not before the Wildcats scored a third goal 11 minutes into the second half to go up, 3-0. B. U. called its timeout with 22 minutes left, and from that point on the Terriers took control of the game, outshooting the Wildcats, 12-2, in the period and earning a 6-2 advantage in corners.

With play focusing on the Terrier offensive end, the Terriers took advantage of a battle for the ball in the circle and scored its first goal. Senior midfielder Lindsey Domers (Voorhees, N. J. / Eastern) poked the ball past UNH goalkeeper Christine Buckley to cut the lead to 3-1 with 4:19 left.

B. U. scored its next goal on a cross by junior forward Kara Rossi (North Salem, N. Y. / North Salem) that senior forward Celeste Hubbard (Detroit, Mich. / University Liggett) put into the back of the net to make the score 3-2 with 3:06 left.

B. U. pulled redshirt freshman goalkeeper Erin Prediger (Telford, Pa. / Souderton Area) with 1:39 left for an extra attacker, but the Terriers couldn't move the ball out of their defensive end.

"We had more opportunities inside 25 yards than they did, but UNH did a better job of maximizing their opportunities," said Terrier head coach Sally Starr. "In the last 18 or 19 minutes after our timeout, we believed we hard a chance to win the game. We have to solve our first half - second half differential."

Hubbard led all offensive players with three shots, scoring her first goal of the season. Prediger had one save in defeat, while Buckley had two stops in victory.

B. U. next plays at Dartmouth College on Saturday, Sept. 27.
