BOSTON (Sept. 20) Boston University senior forward Danielle DeCoste (Fall River, MA/Durfee HS) was named America East Field Hockey Player of the Week for the week ending September 19 after leading the Terriers to back-to-back victories over No. 18 Boston College and Maine last week. DeCoste scored her first two goals of the season in B.U.'s 4-0 win against Commonwealth Avenue rival No. 18 Boston College on Wednesday, September 15. The 5'1 goal-seeking senior scored at 1:16 of the first half from sophomore teammate Jane Rogers (Watertown, MA) and tallied her second score at 24:21 of the second half from senior Jessica Alcorta (Demarest, NJ). Three days later in the America East conference opener at Maine, DeCoste repeated her multi-goal effort with two more goals in the Terriers' 4-0 win. DeCoste scored B.U's final two goals on the day, at 4:34 of the first half from senior co-captain Tina McDavitt (Walpole, MA) and at 11:45 remaining in the game from junior Robyn Kenney (Whitehouse Station, NJ) and McDavitt. In the win at Maine, DeCoste moved into 12th place on the Terriers' all-time scoring list with 19 goals and 12 assists for 50 points. Danielle is a talented hockey player who is playing into her full potential; head coach Sally Starr said. After recording no points in three games, DeCoste has accumulated eight points in her last two games. Hopefully, this is just the beginning of what's to come, Starr added. Currently, DeCoste leads the team in goals (4) and is tied for the team lead in points with senior Jacyln Mele (Fairfield, NJ-3-2-8) and junior Kate Cusick (Allentown, PA-3-2-8). She is tied for second in America East in goals scored (4) and fourth in total points (8). Boston University has started the season with record of 4-1 for the first time since the 1996 season, when the Sally Starr led Terriers finished the year 17-5-0 and 7-0 in America East. DeCoste and her teammates travel to Towson University (1-5, 0-0) on Friday, September 24 and the University of Delaware (3-2, 0-0) on Sunday, September 26 in a pair of America East conference games.
