Boston, MA (Sept. 19) - The field hockey team is ranked No. 17 in this week's STX/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll released on Sept. 19. The University of Maryland retains the top spot with a 7-0 record and 24 first-place votes. Sally Starr's team (4-2, 1-0 America East) completed a 2-1 week that saw them drop a 1-0 decision to No. 14 Boston College on Wednesday, before kicking off its' home schedule with a 2-0 win over Maine and a 2-1 win over California-Berkeley. Junior goalkeeper Susan Harrington (Tuftonboro, NH) captured America East Player of the Week honors for her efforts. She stopped seven shots in the loss to BC, allowing only a penalty stroke goal in the second half. She had two saves in the 2-0 shutout of Maine on Saturday, Sept. 16, and turned away four shots against Cal-Berkeley on Sept. 17. It was the first such honor for Harrington, who is second in the conference with a 1.33 goals against average. She had a goal in the Maine game and assisted on senior forward Kelly Clothier's (Philadelphia, PA) game-winning goal against Cal-Berkeley the next day.
