After capturing a share of the America East regular-season title and finishing the year ranked 13th in the finale NFHCA Division I National Poll, the Boston University field hockey team comes in at No. 10 in this year's Terrier Twelve.

BU recorded 11 wins and went 4-1 in America East play to share the league's regular-season crown with New Hampshire. The Terriers went on to advance to the conference championship game and were the highest-ranked Massachusetts team in the last national poll.

Despite playing one of the toughest schedules in the nation, the Terriers hung tough against top-notch squads and were handed five one-goal losses - including two in overtime - against top-10 teams.

BU topped then-No. 10 Maine, 2-1, in the regular season before blanking the Black Bears, 4-0, in the America East semifinals when they were ranked 13th. The Terriers defeated then-No. 13 Michigan State by a score of 3-1 early in the year and also pulled off a 2-1 double overtime triumph against Albany when it was ranked 15th late in the year.

Junior Jacinda McLeod earned NFHCA All-America Second Team honors and became the first-ever two-time America East Defensive Player of the Year. She was joined on the NFHCA Northeast Region First Team by senior Kate Murphy and classmate Nicole van Oosterom. Senior Giovanna Monaco and junior Macey Gaumond earned second-team honors.

Gaumond led the team in points (24) and goals (10), while McLeod was second on the squad in points (21), goals (8) and assists (5). With six goals and four assists, van Oosterom ranked third with 16 points while junior transfer Tabi Hatch tallied 14 points on five goals and four assists in her first season at BU.

In goal, freshman Valentina Cerda took over the starting job and posted a 1.50 goals-against average and a .778 save percentage - ranked 10th and eighth in the nation, respectively - en route to be named America East Co-Rookie of the Year.

BU returns eight starters from the 2011 squad and also will welcome a talented group of five newcomers.
