BOSTON -
The Boston University field hockey team has wrapped up its spring season and will enter the 2012 campaign this fall with Kiley Allosso and Kat Spring as its co-captains.
The Terriers competed on five dates this spring against competition from all over the region.
"This spring was a great opportunity for us, as we had a small roster and everybody had the chance to play in a lot of tournaments," said head coach Sally Starr.
"We saw so many of our players gain confidence and exhibit their growth as athletes and hockey players. With everyone getting lots of playing time, the experience they gained will be invaluable as we look forward to what should be a strong season this fall."
Allosso, a redshirt junior this past year, will be the lone returning captain from this past season and will be joined for the upcoming campaign by Spring, a redshirt sophomore.
"We're really looking forward to having Kiley back as a captain this season," said Starr. "After witnessing her maturity and growth over the past few years, having her here to mentor Kat and the rest of the team will be very valuable. Kat's ready to move into this new role and we'll have a great combination of leadership and experience in our captains next year."
The team held its annual banquet in April along with their families and the program's support staff. The Terriers celebrated their 2011 season and formally sent off their six-member senior class.
Senior Kate Murphy earned the Most Valuable Player Award and redshirt sophomore Dana Centofanti was the recipient of the team's Most Improved Player Award. A pair of redshirt freshmen were also honored, as Caitlin Toomey earned the BUFHA Spirit Award and Ally Alfonso was the first-ever recipient of the team's new Unsung Hero Award.
