Jessica Alcorta Earns NFHCA Third Team All-America Honors
BOSTON -- Boston University senior midfielder Jessica Alcorta (Demarest, NJ/Northern Valley Regional) earned 1998 AstroTurf/National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division I Third Team All-America honors. Alcorta, who also earned First Team America East All-Conference and Northeast Regional All-America honors, finished fourth on the team in scoring with 24 points in 1998, tallying a career-high 18 assists. Her assist-total ranked second among all America East players this season. In addition, Alcorta had six multiple-point outings, including a career-best three-assist performance on Nov. 1 vs. Towson. Alcorta, who has one season of eligibility remaining, has played in 63 games in her collegiate career, scoring 40 points (6 goals, 28 assists). Boston University, under the direction of head coach Sally Starr (18 years, 207-127-21) finished the 1998 season with a 12-8 record, its 11th consecutive winning campaign. After starting the season 1-3, the Terriers won seven of their next eight games to move into the national rankings. In the final week of the regular-season, B.U. defeated third-ranked Connecticut and 11th-ranked Delaware to achieve a final No. 12 regular-season ranking. With a 6-2 record in league play, the Terriers earned a spot in the America East Championships for the ninth consecutive year. However, B.U. lost to eventual champion New Hampshire, 3-2, in the semifinals.
