DURHAM, N.H. - The No. 17 Boston University field hockey team came up short in its quest for an America East title on Sunday, as the Terriers dropped a 4-2 contest to No. 10 New Hampshire in the league championship game at Memorial Field.

BU, which was playing in the title game for the fifth time in the last seven years, finishes the year with a record of 11-9. UNH earned the league's automatic NCAA bid and will enter the tournament with a record of 17-4.

The Terriers got goals from junior Macey Gaumond and sophomore Ysi Schieb. Freshman goalkeeper Valentina Cerda recorded seven saves.

UNH opened the scoring just 2:13 into the contest when senior Hayley Rausch scored the first of her two goals on the day.

BU responded, however, when Gaumond took a pass from junior Nicole van Oosterom and beat UNH goalkeeper Katherine Nagengast with a shot to the left corner at 17:22.

With the score tied, the Wildcats generated a handful of corners and earned the lead again with tallies just under five minutes apart.

Megan Bozek scored off the top of the circle on a corner in the 23rd minute and Kyle Lyons followed with a marker in the 28th minute to give UNH a 3-1 advantage.

Schieb made it a 3-2 affair before the half when she dribbled along the top of the circle before launching a perfectly placed shot to the upper right corner of the goal at the 28:54 mark.

In the second half, the Wildcats regained a two-goal edge with an insurance goal from Rausch in the 53rd minute and held off the Terriers down the stretch.

UNH held a 14-9 shot advantage and earned 10 corners to BU's five. Nagengast recorded three saves in the UNH goal.
